Abstract

Aronia or chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) is a fruit rich in polyphenols, such as anthocyanins, procyanidins and chlorogenic acid, which have beneficial influence on blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol and triglycerides levels, and also increase antioxidant capacity of body fluids. Therefore, aronia juice (especially when sweetened with steviosides) or powdered extract in capsules can be a valuable component of diabetics diet.
