Abstract

Background: The purpose of this research was to assessselected personality traits (neuroticism, extraversion, psychoticism and distortion tendencies) and a subjectivesense of the quality of life in patients with hypertension.

Materials and methods: The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised (EPQ-R) and the Satisfaction WithLife Scale (SWLS) were used in this research.

Results: Sick people manifested a higher level of extraversiontraits (p < 0.001) and lower distortion tendencies (p <0.05) than healthy people. The quality of life in illness wassignificantly lower (p < 0.05) than in health and correlatednegatively with neuroticism (p < 0.05) and positively withthe Lie scale (p < 0.05).

Conclusions: In addition to the theoretical-scientific aspect, thisresearch adds an applicative-therapeutic dimension towardsimproving the quality of life of people with hypertension.
