Leptin - does it Play a Role in the Pathogenesis of Arterial Hypertension?

Marcin Adamczak, Andrzej Więcek, Franciszek Kokot
Nadciśnienie tętnicze 1999;3(1):52-58.

Abstract

Leptin is the product of the Ob/Ob gene. This hormone is intimately involved in the maintenance of a constant body weight by influencing food uptake and energy expenditure. Leptin seems to be a player in the pathogenesis of arterial hypertension by activation of the sympathetic nervous system, influencing water-electrolyte balance and vascula remodelling.
