Treatment of Renovascular Hypertension in Takayasu’s Arteritis - Case Report
Nadciśnienie tętnicze 2003;7(2):121-128.
Abstract
Takayasu's arteritis is a chronic vasculitis mainly involving the aorta and its main branches such as the brachiocephalic, carotid, subclavian and renal arteries as well as pulmonary
arteries. The clinical manifestation includes ischaemic symptoms due to stenotic lesions or thrombus formation.
The etiology of the disease is still not fully elucidated, but early diagnosis and early treatment have made a better prognosis possible.
One of the typical features of Takayasu's arteritis is the preponderance of the disease in young women. The incidence of renovascular hypertension is high among patients with Takayasu's arteritis.
We present a 39-year old woman with Takayasu's arteritis who was first hospitalized in the Department of Hypertension, Institute of Cardiology in 1992. We describe diagnostic procedures and successful treatment of the patient during 11 years of follow-up.
