The Polish Society of Hematology was founded by Professor Tadeusz Tempka in 1950. This was significantly earlier than the American Society of Hematology, which was founded in 1958. The Society was renamed the Polish Society of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine in 1975 [1].
The Institute of Hematology in Warsaw was created in 1951, and renamed the Institute of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine in 1992. The Society and the Institute jointly founded the journal “Acta Haematologica Polonica” (AHP) in 1970.
Over the last three years, substantial changes have been introduced: all papers in the journal are now published in English. For the last two years, the journal has been published bimonthly, and the time from submission of articles to final publication has been shortened substantially [2, 3]. In 2021, Poland’s Ministry of Education and Science awarded our journal 100 points for parametrization [4], thus ranking AHP among the most prestigious Polish journals.
AHP is the most important and influential journal in the field of Polish hematology and transfusion medicine [1, 5]. The journal covers all aspects of hematology, as presented by Polish and international scientists. Many international and national co-operative groups have published in “Acta Haematologica Polonica” [6–8].
We are about to start on the 53rd year of the journal. To adopt the title of one of the most popular songs of 2022, we are ‘running up that hill’ of the Emerging Sources Citation Index (Web of Science) and PubMed Central. Such success is largely dependent on the number of citations in international journals of papers published in “Acta Haematologica Polonica” in the two most recent calendar years. This is the continuous call to the entire Society.
